Ever so often, some believe that the limitations of the physical world will soon make it impossible to make a CPU faster and/or smaller. Intel however keeps reminding us that there is always a way to overcome an obstacle.
Intel’s new line of Sandy Bridge CPUs are both faster and cooler than previous Intel Core generations. “Cool” in the sense that these CPUs run at a much lower power level, reducing the high heat generated in our data center.
Reduced air conditioning expenses is, of course, a saving that we pass on to our loyal customers. We at ServerPoint.com are currently testing some of these new CPUs, in order to soon offer them to our dedicated server clients.
The right combination of motherboard, chassis and RAM have already been selected, and we are now in the process of testing our operating system images with them. Currently, we are testing the Pentium G620T as replacement for our line of low cost servers (Celerons, for example), as well as the i3-2100T as replacement for our line of Core2Quad servers. Sandy Bridge i5, i7 and Xeon E3s will also be offered.
We are very excited about these new servers and we hope you will be too. Stay tuned!
