How do they do it?
Houzz.com is a large user of the concept of "big data"; the ability to handle large amounts of data in a distributed environment. Their infrastructure is made up of dozens of servers, ranging from lower end servers optimized for CPU and large amounts of RAM, to our line of Colossus enterprise dedicated servers to store valuable, critical information.
On the software side, the lightweight nginx
handles primary web serving,
the popular open source Varnish Cache accelerates image delivery,
while a combination of servers powered by MySQL and
redis handles data storage and data delivery acceleration.As for accessibility, ServerPoint's fully redundant network provides Houzz.com with the multi-gigabit bandwidth capacity required to handle their users, all while maintaining 100% uptime. A private 10 gig LAN also handles their internal traffic.
