Hi there,
I hope this is the right forum to ask these questions. I thought it would be useful to ask them here, since others may use the answers. I have a couple of linux vpn servers, and for a new project we need a windows one. My experience with linux servers have been positive, but I am used to having full access. which means from creating a fresh installation using a web panel to allowing disallowing ports on my linux server. They are no different than the ones in the server room, and that's the kind of control I need over the upcoming windows server so question 1 is: do I have that kind of control over windows vps servers in serverpoint? setup any software I want? are virtual servers behind any kind of firewall? in short, do I have the level of control I would have if it was in the next room? the other question is: if I get a dedicated server, do I have to pay the monthly price for base (only ram + cpu etc configuration) PLUS windows 2003 enterprise montly price? So in case we go with a dedicated windows server, do we pay for two items monthly? one being the server and the other being the windows os? Kind regards Seref |

Hi Seref
Thanks for contacting us. We provide windows VPS with Administrator access and you can install any software you want. You have full control over your VPS and its not behind any firewall. As for dedicated server, yes there is base price for each package. You can check our packages at Dedicated Server Hosting from ServerPoint Windows Standard is $19.99/month and Enterprise is $49.99/month. It is in addition to the base price. |

Hi Kenny,
Thanks for your response, all seems fine for us, and I guess we'll be going with a vps solution. I've just seen that we need a registered domain name to order a vps plan. We have not decided about the name yet, this is a server for a reserach project, that we have been developing in University College London. We'll probably create a dns entry like XYZ.chime.ucl.ac.uk quite soon, but that discussion is still going on What can we do about it? I'd rather get going for now with ip of the server for access, and redirect that upcoming dns entry later to this ip. Can you help me here? Kind regards Seref |
