IPv6 comes to Amsterdam
We’re pleased to announce that IPv6 is now available for all VPS in our Amsterdam data center. You can enable IPv6 through ServerPoint’s Client Portal and optionally request /64 or /56 subnets routed to your server.
This brings Amsterdam in line with our Silicon Valley and Singapore locations, with Las Vegas, Dallas, and Ashburn coming soon.
About our Amsterdam facility
Our Amsterdam presence is hosted at Digital Realty AMS7, one of the premier data center facilities in the Netherlands.
Digital Realty AMS7
Digital Realty is one of the world’s largest data center operators, and AMS7 represents their flagship Amsterdam facility. Located in the Science Park area, AMS7 offers:

Our infrastructure
As with all our locations, we own the infrastructure in Amsterdam:
- Supermicro servers with enterprise-grade components
- Our own routers and switches for full network control
- Ceph distributed storage for data redundancy
- Backup storage arrays for our VPS backup service
We don’t resell capacity from another provider. The hardware is ours, configured and maintained by our team.
Network connectivity
Our Amsterdam network connects through two major carriers:
NTT - One of the world’s largest Tier 1 network providers, NTT operates a global backbone with extensive peering throughout Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Their European network is particularly well-connected, with presence at every major internet exchange.
Cogent - Known for their dense European network, Cogent provides excellent connectivity across Western and Eastern Europe. Their network reaches virtually every country on the continent with low-latency paths.
Both providers are multi-homed at major European internet exchanges including AMS-IX (Amsterdam Internet Exchange), one of the largest IXPs in the world by traffic volume.
Why Amsterdam matters
Amsterdam is the heart of European internet connectivity. More European traffic passes through Amsterdam than any other city on the continent. AMS-IX alone handles multiple terabits per second of peak traffic.
For customers serving European audiences, Amsterdam provides:
- Low latency to Western Europe (UK, Germany, France, Benelux)
- Excellent connectivity to Eastern Europe
- Strong paths to the Middle East and Africa
- Good transatlantic links to North America
Enabling IPv6
If you have an existing VPS in Amsterdam:
- Log in to ServerPoint’s Client Portal
- Navigate to your list of VPS servers
- Click the gear icon next to your Amsterdam VPS
- Click the Info / IPs tab
- Enable the IPv6 interface
For VPS created before this feature was available, ServerPoint’s Client Portal will notify you if a quick reboot is needed to add the IPv6 interface.
Routed /64 and /56 subnets
Need more than a single IPv6 address? We offer routed subnets directly to your VPS:
- /64 subnet: 18 quintillion addresses - the standard allocation for a single network segment
- /56 subnet: 256 /64 subnets - for when you need to subdivide across multiple purposes
These subnets are routed to your VPS’s dedicated IPv6 interface. Configure the addresses on your server as needed. Learn more about our IPv6 networking options.
