If you’re running a web hosting business or managing multiple websites, cPanel on a Linux VPS is the standard setup. It automates account creation, DNS, email, SSL, and everything else you need to host client websites. But cPanel by itself has a weakness: one bad site can ruin it for everyone.
The problem cPanel alone doesn’t solve
On a plain cPanel server, all hosting accounts share the same CPU, RAM, and I/O without hard limits. If one client’s WordPress site gets hit by a spam attack, or a poorly written plugin starts eating 100% CPU, every other site on the server slows down or goes offline. You have to manually find the problem account, log in, and kill the offending process.
We’ve seen this happen on thousands of cPanel servers over the years. It’s the single biggest source of “why is my server slow” tickets.
How CloudLinux fixes it
CloudLinux is a Linux distribution designed to work with cPanel. It adds per-account resource limits (called LVE, or Lightweight Virtual Environment). You set CPU, RAM, I/O, and process limits for each hosting account. When a site hits its limit, it gets throttled or temporarily restricted instead of affecting everyone else.
The result: one runaway site doesn’t take down 50 other sites. Your other customers keep running normally while CloudLinux contains the problem. You also get visibility into which accounts are using the most resources, so you can proactively reach out to heavy users.
Setting it up on a VPS

For best results, size your VPS based on how many hosting accounts you plan to run. A 4 GB RAM VPS handles a small number of sites. For 50+ accounts, go bigger, or consider a dedicated server for maximum resources.
