Free DDoS protection for VPS hosting and dedicated servers

By ServerPoint's Team ·

DDoS attacks are one of the most common threats to any server connected to the internet. They flood your network connection with garbage traffic until legitimate users can’t get through. A small attack can take a website offline for hours. A large one can overwhelm entire data center uplinks.

We’ve partnered with Path.net to include DDoS protection on all our hosting services at no extra cost.

How DDoS attacks work

A distributed denial-of-service attack uses thousands (sometimes millions) of compromised devices to send traffic to your server simultaneously. The traffic can be volumetric (raw bandwidth flooding), protocol-based (SYN floods, UDP reflection), or application-layer (HTTP floods designed to exhaust your web server). Without protection, your VPS or dedicated server can’t tell the difference between attack traffic and real users.

How Path.net protection works

Path.net operates scrubbing infrastructure that sits between the internet and your server. Their system monitors traffic patterns in real time and identifies anomalies that indicate an attack. When an attack is detected, suspicious traffic is rerouted through scrubbing centers that filter out the attack packets while allowing legitimate traffic to pass through to your server.

The key points:

  • Automatic: Detection and mitigation happen automatically. You don’t need to flip a switch or call support when an attack starts.
  • Always-on: Traffic is continuously monitored, not just during detected attacks. This means mitigation kicks in within seconds, not minutes.
  • No configuration: There’s nothing to set up on your server. The protection operates at the network layer before traffic reaches your VPS or dedicated server.

What’s protected

DDoS protection is included with every hosting plan:

Why we include it for free

Many hosting providers charge $50-200/month extra for DDoS protection, or only offer it as an add-on you have to remember to enable. We think that’s backward. DDoS attacks aren’t rare events; they’re a constant reality of running servers on the internet. Every server should be protected by default.

By building DDoS protection into our infrastructure (rather than offering it as an optional add-on), we protect the entire network, not just individual customers who pay extra. This is better for everyone because a DDoS attack on one unprotected server can affect network performance for neighboring servers.
