Our G4 series virtual servers are now available in Amsterdam, running on Intel Xeon Gold processors clocked at 3.5 GHz. That’s a significant jump from our Gen 3 hardware (Xeon E5 v4 at 2.1 GHz) and it makes a real difference for workloads that care about per-core speed.
Why clock speed matters for VPS hosting
Not all workloads are created equal. Some applications (video encoding, scientific computing) can use dozens of cores in parallel. But many of the most common server workloads are single-threaded or lightly threaded:
WordPress and PHP: Each page request is typically processed by a single PHP thread. A faster core means each page renders faster, which directly translates to lower time-to-first-byte and better Google rankings.
Databases: Many database queries are processed by a single thread. Complex joins, sorts, and aggregations complete faster on a higher-frequency core.

When to choose Gen 4 vs Gen 3
Choose Gen 4 if your workload is CPU-sensitive: web hosting, WordPress, databases, real-time applications, API servers. The 3.5 GHz clock speed will give you measurably better performance per core.
Choose Gen 3 if your workload is more about storage and RAM than raw CPU speed: file servers, backup storage, batch processing, development environments. Gen 3 gives you more cores per dollar.
