We’ve completed a major round of upgrades at our Santa Clara, Silicon Valley data center. Both SSD capacity and CPU power have been doubled, and the Ceph storage layer has been tuned for faster I/O.
SSD capacity doubled
We added more SSDs to the Ceph distributed storage cluster, doubling the available storage for virtual servers at this location. Ceph distributes data across multiple physical disks and replicates it for redundancy, so your VPS data is protected even if individual drives fail.
The storage layer was also tuned during this upgrade. We optimized the Ceph OSD configuration and adjusted placement groups, which improves random I/O performance. Disk-intensive workloads like databases, build systems, and file servers should see the benefit.
CPU upgrades
We installed Intel Xeon E5-2683v4 processors in many of the older hypervisors at this location. These CPUs have more cores and higher clock speeds than the previous generation, effectively doubling the available CPU power for VPS hosting at Santa Clara.
If you’re already running virtual servers at this location, you benefit automatically. Your VPS runs on the same hypervisor pool, and as we cycle VMs through the upgraded hosts during maintenance windows, you’ll land on faster hardware.
Why Santa Clara for VPS hosting
Santa Clara is in the heart of Silicon Valley, surrounded by major tech companies, cloud providers, and internet exchange points. Network connectivity from here to the rest of the Bay Area, the West Coast, and Asia Pacific is excellent. If your users or services are concentrated on the West Coast, or if you need low-latency access to Silicon Valley APIs and infrastructure, Santa Clara is a natural fit.
