VPS hosting for developers: why it beats shared hosting

VPS hosting for developers

If you’re a developer building anything more than a static site, shared hosting doesn’t cut it. You can’t install custom packages, you can’t run background processes, you can’t use Docker, and you’re stuck with whatever PHP or Python version the host decided to install. A VPS gives you a full server with root access, so you can set it up exactly the way your project needs.

What developers get with VPS hosting

When you deploy a Linux VPS or Windows VPS on our platform, you get a real virtual server with its own operating system, dedicated CPU and RAM, and SSD storage. You have full root (or Administrator) access, which means you can:

  • Install any software: Node.js, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Docker, Kubernetes, databases, whatever your stack requires
  • Run background processes and daemons
  • Configure your own firewall rules
  • Set up custom DNS, reverse proxies (Nginx, Caddy), and SSL certificates
  • Use SSH keys for secure access
  • Snapshot your server before risky changes so you can roll back

This is your server. Not a shared account on someone else’s machine.

Infrastructure behind the platform

Our VPS hosting runs on Intel Xeon hardware with SSD storage backed by Ceph. The network uses 10G and 40G links, so traffic between your virtual servers and the internet is fast. If you need multiple servers talking to each other (web server, database, cache, worker), you can set up a private network between them within the same data center.

We’ve been running this infrastructure since 2013 and we handle everything from small side projects to large-scale deployments. One of our clients ran a large object storage cluster on dozens of dedicated servers (each with 30+ disks) connected to hundreds of web servers over a 40G network. We built the network for that. So whether you need one VPS or a hundred, the platform can handle it.

Choose your OS and data center

We offer a wide range of Linux VPS templates: Ubuntu (latest LTS and previous), AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, Debian, and more. For Windows VPS, we have Windows Server 2019, 2022, 2025, and Windows 10. Pick the OS you develop on and you’re ready to go.

Deploy at any of our six data centers: Las Vegas, Dallas, Ashburn (Virginia), Santa Clara, Amsterdam, or Singapore. If you’re serving users in a specific region, pick the closest data center for lower latency. If you want to test multi-region deployments, spin up virtual servers in multiple locations.

Getting started

Sign up, choose your plan and OS, and your VPS is deployed in minutes. If you outgrow VPS and need bare metal performance, our dedicated servers use the same data centers and network. Contact us if you want to talk through your architecture or need a custom setup.
