Windows 7 VPS hosting for legacy software

We removed Windows 7 from our VPS hosting templates when Windows 10 became the standard. Then customers kept asking for it. Legacy business software, older accounting systems, specific industrial applications, there are real reasons why some software only runs on Windows 7. So we brought it back.

When Windows 7 VPS makes sense

Some business applications were built for Windows 7 and were never updated. Upgrading the software isn’t always an option (the vendor is gone, the cost is too high, or the replacement doesn’t exist yet). In those cases, running the application on a Windows 7 VPS keeps it alive without needing a physical Windows 7 machine in your office.

Common use cases:

  • Legacy line-of-business apps that don’t run on Windows 10 or Windows Server
  • Older versions of accounting, ERP, or industry-specific software
  • Testing environments that need to match a Windows 7 production setup
  • Remote desktop access to a specific Windows 7 environment

What to keep in mind

Windows 7 reached end of life for mainstream security updates from Microsoft. That means no new security patches. If you run a Windows 7 VPS, you should keep it firewalled, limit internet exposure, and only use it for the specific legacy application that requires it. Don’t run it as a general-purpose server.

For general workloads, we recommend Windows 10 (familiar desktop environment, actively supported) or Windows Server 2022/2025 (server workloads, fully supported). All of these are available on our Windows VPS hosting platform.

How to deploy
