People often ask why we put our main data center in Las Vegas, Nevada. A big part of the answer is geography: southern Nevada (including Las Vegas) sits in the only part of the United States that’s free of major natural disasters. That’s why a lot of companies use this region for disaster recovery and critical infrastructure – and why we run VPS hosting, dedicated server hosting and web hosting from here.
What “disaster free” means here
In this zone you don’t get hurricanes, tornadoes, or the kind of long-term flooding that can take a data center offline. There are no strong earthquakes, and there are no nuclear plants nearby. So from a “acts of nature” standpoint, it’s one of the safest places in the country to put servers. That doesn’t mean zero risk – nothing does – but it’s a real factor when you’re deciding where to host VPS and dedicated servers.
Why Las Vegas specifically?
Las Vegas has strong power and fiber infrastructure (the gaming and hospitality industry helped drive that). Nevada has no state income tax and business-friendly law. And ServerPoint has been a Nevada company for almost two decades – we moved our main operations here from California during the early-2000s power crisis, and we’ve stayed. A lot of big names (eBay, Zappos, Intuit, and others) run infrastructure in Las Vegas for similar reasons.
What we offer from Las Vegas
From our Las Vegas data center you can get VPS hosting, dedicated server hosting and web hosting – same products we offer in our other regions, just with the reliability and location benefits of southern Nevada. We also have data centers in Dallas, Ashburn (Virginia), Santa Clara (Silicon Valley), Amsterdam and Singapore, so you can pick the region that fits your users.
